Welcome to The Haven

The Haven Residential Home is a registered care home, aiming to provide a high standard of care to our residents, whilst encouraging them to live as independently as possible by receiving care & support consistent with their needs. The Haven is set in approximately one acre of secluded land and is 5 minutes-drive from Colchester town centre. Local amenities include bus stop directly outside, two small local shops and a church; pub and restaurants within walking distance.

About Us & Our Home

We provide care for anyone over the age of 65 male or female, and those suffering from Dementia – OP DE (E), including married couples or partners, who have reached a stage in their lives where they prefer to live in a home where all the support required for daily living is provided. Our caring team of staff provides cooked meals, refreshments, housekeeping and laundry services as well as personal care for our residents.

We have accommodation for 29 residents in single rooms, majority with en-suites. All bedrooms and communal areas are fitted with a nurse-call system and smoke alarm. All bedrooms are fully furnished, but residents are welcome to bring with them items of their own furniture by arrangement.

At The Haven we aim to provide a secure, happy and comfortable home, promoting a high standard of care and understanding of individual’s needs, to offer as much support as required, whilst maintaining respect for privacy at all times, and help maintain personal dignity and independence wherever possible.

What We Offer

The home is set in large grounds, and our residents love the outside garden space. The home and the gardens are fully secured for peace of mind. There are two newly decorated lounges at The Haven. One is utilised as a reminiscence lounge, whilst the other is used for activities such as Bingo, indoor ten pin bowling, crafts, singing and dancing and so much more. Both lounges have large screen TVs and once a week we hold a Movie night for our residents, with popcorn included!

Located in the rear garden we have a summerhouse, which sometimes the residents use as a quiet space. Both lounges back onto the garden, and when the weather is good, many of the residents will sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Activities are given high priority in our home, and we pride ourselves on the range and variety of activities we offer our residents. However this does not only take place in the communal areas, as occasionally some residents may prefer to remain in their own rooms. In which case our Activities Co-ordinator will spend time with them too.

The Haven uses experienced and qualified professionals from Doctors to hairdressers. Any outside service provider we use are subject to all the necessary checks undertaken by us. We use experienced cooks who prepare freshly cooked meals every day and residents can choose to have their meals in our homely dining room or in the comfort of their own room.

We regularly hold events and parties. In the summer we have garden parties, Summer Fetes and barbeques. Our themed nights, for example, Indian, Italian, Chinese nights are always well attended and are really popular with the residents and all the families. All of these events also help us to fundraise for our residents, which enables them to enjoy special gifts, activities, or days out.

To whom it may concern,

I regret to inform you that due to the recent rise in COVID-19 across the nation, along with difficulties accessing regular and effective testing, Sohal Healthcare have taken the step of once again closing all of our services to non-essential visits.

We understand how much distress this will cause and can assure you that this measure has been taken as a last resort and is with deep regret. We truly believe that this is the most effective way of preventing COVID-19 spreading in our care homes.

As of Monday the 14th of September 2020, all homes in the group will again close their doors to all non-essential visits. Residents will still have access to health professionals throughout this closure, but it does mean that non-medical visitors, such as hairdressers and entertainment will also be cancelled.

We hope to update you soon as to when we can re-open and will be reviewing the situation on a weekly basis. I cannot put a date on when are likely to reopen as we will need to see an improvement in the daily figures and/or have better access to testing across the group. As soon as there is any sort of change we will let you know immediately.

This decision has been made at senior management level so please bear this in mind if and when speaking to staff at our care homes.

If you have any questions, or would like to discuss this further, please contact me on r.stokes@sohal.healthcare

Yours Sincerely

Rory Stokes
