Welcome to Chalkney House

Chalkney House is a 45-bed residential home that has been converted from a Victorian country house with a purpose built extension added in 1990 and a further extension in 2005. It is set in two acres of land situated in the lovely, picturesque north-Essex village of White Colne, on the outskirts of Colchester. At the rear of the home is an enclosed garden, laid to lawn, flower beds and patio areas. Nearby are the towns of Halstead and Colchester. A regular bus service between them stops at the entrance to the home.

About Us & Our Home

We care for anyone over the age of 65 male or female, including married couples or partners. We also look after clients suffering from dementia.

Accommodation is available for 45 residents, and all rooms have en-suite facilities. There is a bathroom which has been equipped with a Malibu hi lo hydraulically operated bath. We have also added a self-contained specialist dementia care unit of 9 bedrooms.

The Home has been beautifully furnished and our onsite handyman ensures the decor is regularly updated to keep the Home looking fresh. There are three large lounges and four dining areas, all of which are interconnected in the home, so there are no separate units. The beautifully landscaped gardens are totally secure for our service users, and local wildlife such as foxes, rabbits and birds can be seen. There is also a summer house in the garden which can be used as a private area for visits.

What We Offer

Social activities arranged within the home reflect the abilities of the residents and therefore will vary, depending upon the mix of capabilities at any given time. Resident’s family, relatives and friends are invited to all events.

We employ two activities co-ordinators, ensuring that the residents have a wide variety of daily activities to do to keep them active and entertained. Activities include our knitting circle, movie afternoons, games and much more.

Events are held throughout the year, including our annual summer fete, barbecue’s, and Christmas parties; all of which family and friends are invited to. We also have monthly visits from the local church and chiropodist, and a regular hairdresser who uses our specially designed hairdressing room to bring that extra touch of glamour for our service users.

We are proud of the food and drink offered to our service users, as fresh local produce is used for the meals and our cooks always ensure we have freshly baked goods on offer too. We are more than happy to discuss any special dietary requirements, as we ensure that everyone’s tastes are catered for. Carefully prepared traditional menus offer a combination of nutritional value and excellence. Family and friends are invited to have meals with their loved ones too.

To whom it may concern,

I regret to inform you that due to the recent rise in COVID-19 across the nation, along with difficulties accessing regular and effective testing, Sohal Healthcare have taken the step of once again closing all of our services to non-essential visits.

We understand how much distress this will cause and can assure you that this measure has been taken as a last resort and is with deep regret. We truly believe that this is the most effective way of preventing COVID-19 spreading in our care homes.

As of Monday the 14th of September 2020, all homes in the group will again close their doors to all non-essential visits. Residents will still have access to health professionals throughout this closure, but it does mean that non-medical visitors, such as hairdressers and entertainment will also be cancelled.

We hope to update you soon as to when we can re-open and will be reviewing the situation on a weekly basis. I cannot put a date on when are likely to reopen as we will need to see an improvement in the daily figures and/or have better access to testing across the group. As soon as there is any sort of change we will let you know immediately.

This decision has been made at senior management level so please bear this in mind if and when speaking to staff at our care homes.

If you have any questions, or would like to discuss this further, please contact me on r.stokes@sohal.healthcare

Yours Sincerely

Rory Stokes
