"My wife, Lyn, and I feel we must write to express our gratitude to Weald Hall Residential Home staff for their excellent care of my mother, Marjorie Borrer, aged 97. She has been a resident for two years , has severe dementia, is deaf, almost blind and bedridden from fragility and old age. However, she is chatted to, kept clean and comfortable, free of pain, fed and watered and treated with real affection, respect, patience and love - so important! - by all the staff. She has a lovely room - warm and comfortable - and the whole home is kept clean and pleasant for all. We can visit at any time and are always treated to a warm and friendly welcome - we feel like friends not visitors. We are aware that only the care, effort and diligence of the staff have kept her alive and given her the highest quality of life possible in her condition. My mother seems content and very aware of the warmth and affection with which she is treated. Thank God for homes like this!"

To whom it may concern,

I regret to inform you that due to the recent rise in COVID-19 across the nation, along with difficulties accessing regular and effective testing, Sohal Healthcare have taken the step of once again closing all of our services to non-essential visits.

We understand how much distress this will cause and can assure you that this measure has been taken as a last resort and is with deep regret. We truly believe that this is the most effective way of preventing COVID-19 spreading in our care homes.

As of Monday the 14th of September 2020, all homes in the group will again close their doors to all non-essential visits. Residents will still have access to health professionals throughout this closure, but it does mean that non-medical visitors, such as hairdressers and entertainment will also be cancelled.

We hope to update you soon as to when we can re-open and will be reviewing the situation on a weekly basis. I cannot put a date on when are likely to reopen as we will need to see an improvement in the daily figures and/or have better access to testing across the group. As soon as there is any sort of change we will let you know immediately.

This decision has been made at senior management level so please bear this in mind if and when speaking to staff at our care homes.

If you have any questions, or would like to discuss this further, please contact me on r.stokes@sohal.healthcare

Yours Sincerely

Rory Stokes
